Dear family, I just sealed up a valentine card to each of our eight kids so PLEASE check your mail boxes this week! We've had a very demanding week and don't look to see things let up before we complete our mission. We came with the intent to "give it our all" and that is exactly how we are going to finish here. It has been a privilege to be in the mission field during this time of transition and change of age. We feel the spirit strongly as those in leadership positions make decisions in keeping with the change. We love you and pray for you each day. Love, Elder and Sister Hunt
Sunday: We
were pretty tired and it was hard to roll out of bed, so we opted to go to the
later meetings in Kirtland. We went to
testimony meetings in both 2nd and 3rd wards and then
came home for Super Bowl Sunday fare at the Paynes. After feasting, Maren and I went with Jared
to practice the organ while Elder Hunt went to find some Bed Bug eradicator. Maren took Jared home and Elder Hunt and I
went out to Bloomfield with a new bed frame, mattress encasement, and
eradicator. It took a couple of hours to
finish the job out there at the sisters’ place, but we got it done and
hopefully those sisters will “sleep tight and not let the bedbugs bite” from
here on in.
Monday: We
were up bright and early so Elder Hunt could hitch up George’s trailer to the
Silverado for our first venture at picking up new missionaries at the airport. It was quite a sight watching those 26 (one
recently injured elder didn’t come as scheduled) valiant souls walk in through
the door to be greeted by their mission president and APs. We hauled part of their luggage and had two
elders ride in the back seat with us. We
went directly to the mission home where they were greeted with green chile/pepperoni
pizza. They were starving and all of
them seemed to think it was a real treat!
We had our usual orientation meeting there and when we left there were
tired elders lounging all over (the sisters were excused to go back to the
bedroom they would be staying in that night).
We had more last minute shopping to do to fill requests that would go
out the next day with missionaries heading to their new areas.
Tuesday: The Apache building was buzzing with life when
we arrived there a little after eight and the parking lot was full of
missionary vehicles. We were kept pretty
busy with giving keys and instructions / information to various
missionaries. I was left with a pile of
10 baptisms that needed to be recorded and that made me pretty happy. Recording those baptisms is one of my very
favorite jobs.
Wednesday:
President Batt came into the office in the afternoon after taking the
departing missionaries to the airport and was ready to talk about what went
well and how we can improve with the next transfer event. He gave us the list of the 7 or 8 new areas
that we need to begin focusing on and asked us to check on a place in Kirtland
that President Whipple had suggested might be a good home for four elders.
Thursday:
After taking care of our office duties, we went to Kirtland to look at
the double-wide trailer that President Batt asked us to check out. It’s not in tip-top shape, but will be
adequate so we asked for a lease agreement to be sent to the mission office. Elder Hunt was feeling a bit ragged, so we
came home early (3:30) and I started a little sewing project that I had been
thinking about for a few days.
Friday:
Another errand day: took chairs
to the Farmington 1st and 3rd elders, went to see why the Farmington 4th sisters’ kitchen drain wasn’t working,
ordered another 30 bed sets from the Mattress Outlet, ordered another eight
chest of drawers, purchased 4 tables and some chairs at Rejuvenated Treasures,
and ended the day by taking Maren with us to La Cabaña for dinner (and it was a
GOOD place to relax and visit and enjoy the food!)
Saturday:
It was a snow day and a good day to stay inside and sew. I finished up my project and it turned out
really well. Elder Hunt did paper work
and also mended the broken chairs we brought back from the rez last weekend.
This week was pretty intense, with so much to do and so
little time! We have tried to visualize
every mission church wide with the same intensity and busyness, WOW! We will be getting approximately 30 new
missionaries next month. By June our
numbers will be up to 220 – an increase
of 60 from what we now have. This is an
exciting time to be in the mission field and to watch how it all unfolds, which
it does in a very natural way, only because the Lord is directing the
work. We feel so blessed to be able to
serve together giving our all to building the kingdom. The Church is true – we know it and we love
it!
